Shops In Ikorodu Burnt

According to Punch Metro the fire reportedly started around 2am on Wednesday and it affected four shops in the complex.

The fire was allegedly caused by an electrical spark inside one of the shops on Beach Road, opposite Ikorodu General Hospital, Lagos.

An eyewitness, Olamide Ojuope, said the fire occurred after he and his friends returned from an outing.

He said:

“We were sleeping when some security guards started banging at the door. When we rushed out, I saw the fire burning inside the shops, but no one could break into the shops. We called the state fire service, which put out the fire.”

One of the owners of the burnt shops, Biodun Odukoya, said he received a call about the fire from a doctor at the general hospital, adding that his goods were destroyed.Shops In Ikorodu Burnt

The Ogun State indigene said:

“I am a vulcaniser. The fire burnt my three machines and all the tyres I sell. The property I lost is worth about N5.3m.”

It was gathered that another shop owner, Busayo Ayoola, upon seeing that her shop had got burnt, fainted and was rushed to the general hospital.

Ayoola later told our correspondent that her savings were in the shop.

She said:

“My blood pressure rose and I was rushed to the hospital. But I have been discharged. I was at the shop on Tuesday and I closed around 8pm. My computers, photocopier, freezers, printer and all the goods I just bought were burnt.

“My valuables that got burnt were worth about N3m. My husband and I separated 11 years ago. This shop is what I use to take care of my children. Everything is gone; I beg the government to come to my aid.”

Another victim, Idowu Yusuf, a food vendor, said she obtained a loan from a microfinance bank to establish her business, adding that the fire had damaged her trade.

She said:

“If you go there, you will see the extent of the damage. I lost goods worth N500, 000.

“I have called the officials of the microfinance bank to come and observe what happened and they were here. I want the government to help me.”

The Public Affairs Officer, Lagos State Fire Service, Bola Ajao, said the fire service responded immediately it got a distress call on the incident.

She said:

“We received the call around 3.56am. The Ikorodu station responded immediately. They later called for reinforcement around 4.10am, and our Alausa station joined them.

“The aggravation of the fire could be because the residents delayed in calling the fire service. We later put out the fire.”

Real Madrid 2 – 4 Atletico Madrid (2018 UEFA Super Cup) Goals & HighlightsReal Madrid 2 – 4 Atletico Madrid (2018 UEFA Super Cup Video) All Goals & Highlights mp4 download

Two goals from Diego Costa helped Atletico Madrid on the way to Uefa Super Cup glory against city rivals Real Madrid in a thrilling 4-2 victory in Tallinn.

Atletico Madrid beat Real Madrid in the European Super Cup in Tallinn on Wednesday night after taking the lead, losing it and eventually wrestling it back off their opponents in extra-time. With Simeone in the stand serving a ban from last season’s Europa League semi-final sending off, Atletico kept their cool and stayed on course, ultimately winning the game in the first half of extra-time with decisive strikes from Saul and Koke.

It was the start of a new era for both clubs in Estonia on Wednesday night. There have been changes galore at Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid this summer and question marks remain over their identities this coming season. One man who hasn’t changed and doesn’t seem to be planning on doing so is Diego Costa. He bulldozed his way into the penalty area, headed the ball delicately past Raphael Varane and then slammed a shot home from an almost impossible angle after 51 seconds.

Real Madrid under Julen Lopetegui could not have gotten off to a worse start. Slowly though, they wrestled control of the game back off their city rivals. Marcelo down the left, fresh off World Cup duty and Bale looking to replace Ronaldo in Real Madrid’s hierarchy were both causing problems on either side. They were opening spaces inside with Asensio and Benzema picking up the pieces inside.

After 27 minutes, Karim Benzema had Real Madrid level. A ball in from Bale on the right, with his right-foot, landed perfeclty on Benzema’s head and he slid it past Oblak in Atletico’s goal.

In the second half, Sergio Ramos slotted home a penalty after Juanfran handled the ball from a deep corner aimed at Karim Benzema. Atletico looked like they had gone ahead too early and would have no response.

Some quick thinking from Simeone, however, and a rearrangement in his midfield saw Angel Correa come on to cause problems in Real Madrid’s penalty area. He poked a pass to Diego Costa in the six-yard box on 79 minutes and the striker doubled his account and Atlético’s with the score level and the end approaching.

With two sides suffering from fatigue and with both managers wanting to win while protecting their exhausted troops for the weekend with LaLiga approaching, the game went to extra-time.

A rojiblanco blitz with two goals in five minutes sealed matters.

The first came from Saul after Thomas squared to the waiting midfielder. It was the perfect volley and sent Atletico on their way. Just moments after, Vitolo clipped one towards Koke and he side-footed beyond Keylor Navas to leave Real Madrid with a mountain to climb and with a miracle needed.

They couldn’t manage that miracle and Julen Lopetegui’s job just got a lot harder having lost a final to a city rival in his first game. It was the first time Atletico scored four against Real Madrid in a final too, which won’t help.

Diego Simeone, however, having lost so many finals to los Blancos, will be excited by the effort and the stubbornness his side showed to stay in the game and fight back to win. He’ll know that Atletico aren’t far off and if they can fight like they did in Tallinn on Wednesday night for the next 10 months, there will be more trophies to be collected when it’s all said and done.

Victor Moses Retires From International Football

Victor Moses Retires

Victor Moses Retires Victor Moses, today, took to his Instagram page to announce his decision to end his international football career.

On Instagram, he wrote,

I would like to announce that after much thought I have made the decision to retire from playing international football.

I have experienced some of the best moments of my life wearing the Super Eagles shirt and have memories with me that will last a lifetime. Nothing will ever compete to what it felt like to represent Nigeria on behalf of our country.

However I feel that now is the right time to step away in order to be able to focus fully on club career and my young family as well as to allow the next generation of Super Eagles stars the opportunity to step up and to flourish. We are blessed as a nation to have so many exciting young players coming through and now is their time.

There are so many highlights that stand out for me over the years; from making my debut, to playing in two World Cups and being a part of the team to win the African Nations Cup for first time for our nation since 1994 being just a few of them.

I have already spoken to the manager by telephone and would like to say thank you to him and his staff, the NFF and all of my teammates for all of their support over the years. Most importantly I would like to say thank you to the Nigerian people for believing in me and supporting me over the years. It’s meant the world to me and my family and I will always be a proud Nigerian supporting the team.
Thank you for the memories and good luck to the team.

Man Crashes Plane Into His Own House Intentionally, In Order To Kill His Wife

A woman-beater has died after he intentionally crashed a plane into his own home today in what is believed to have been a deranged bid to kill his wife, police said.
Duane Youd, from Payson, Utah, US, carried out the astonishing attack just hours after he had been arrested for assaulting his wife.

His partner and a child, who were in the home at the time of the attack, managed to escape despite the front part the two-story house being engulfed in flames, police Sgt. Noemi Sandoval said.
The crash occurred about 2:30 am today in Payson, a city of about 20,000 residents 60 miles south of Salt Lake City.
Investigators believe the plane belonged to Youd’s employer and that he intentionally flew into his own house, Sandoval said.
He was an experienced pilot, she said. It wasn’t immediately clear who employed Youd.

It’s unknown if the child in the house is related to Youd, Sandoval said.
Youd was arrested about 7.30pm on Sunday after witnesses called cops to report that he was assaulting his wife, police said.
The couple had been drinking and went to American Fork Canyon to talk about problems they were having.
Youd was booked into jail on suspicion of domestic violence and then bailed out, authorities said.
He requested an officer escort to go to his home so he could get his truck and some belongings around midnight.
That occurred without incident, Sandoval said.
Within hours, Youd was taking off in the plane from the Spanish Fork-Springville Airport about 15 miles north of his house.
He flew directly to his neighbourhood and smashed into his house, Sandoval said.
Photos of the wreckage showed the white plane charred and in pieces in the front yard nearby an overturned and crushed car.Man Crashes Plane Into His Own House IntentionallyMan Crashes Plane Into His Own House Intentionally
Most of the house was still intact although the front of the building was burned heavily.
Police had responded one previous time to the house on a domestic violence incident, Sandoval said.
Online court records show that Youd agreed on July 23 to attend marriage and family counselling sessions for six months as part of a plea agreement following an April 8 domestic violence incident.
On that occasion he was charged with disorderly conduct.

Top Tips For Pregnant Travellers

Travelling while pregnant is a no-no for some women. But the truth is you can still travel regardless of the fact that you are pregnant. You simply need to follow these tips shared by Jumia Travel, the leading online travel agency to keep you safe and ensure you have a safe trip.

Choose your destination wisely

Long-haul flights can be uncomfortable during pregnancy, and there are plenty of great destinations closer to home. Ideally, try to choose somewhere within a two-hour to three-hour flight. It’s much easier to relax and enjoy your holiday when you know that there are good shops and medical facilities nearby. Try not to go too far off the beaten track, and do a little research online before you go.

Plan ahead

A little forward thinking can help you make the most of your time away. Make a list of all the things you want to take with you, just to be on the safe side. Allow plenty of time for travel. This includes giving yourself regular rest breaks and toilet stops, as well as extra time for any delays. If you are delayed, use it as an extra chance to have a nap or break. Take a travel pillow to help relieve your back on hard chairs, or for use as a headrest if you have a long wait.

Pack sensibly

Staying comfortable is even more important when you’re pregnant. The right clothes, shoes and accessories can make a real difference. If you’re likely to do lots of walking, take comfortable shoes or trainers. Pack a range of clothes to help you stay cool on hot days and use light layers to stay comfortable when the temperature dips.

Take it easy

Pregnancy is the perfect excuse to kick back and enjoy some real relaxation. Before your pregnancy, you may have unwound by doing things like adventure activities, non-stop shopping or long sightseeing tours. Now that you’re pregnant, try to take a break from such demanding activities. Getting plenty of rest will help you feel better and give you enough energy to enjoy your holiday to the full.

Appreciate the food

Travelling is a great chance to try different cuisines and enjoy an even more varied diet. Delicious fruit, freshly-baked bread and spicy dishes are just some of culinary highlights of any holiday. Now you’re pregnant, a few extra precautions will keep you feeling well while you enjoy some local flavours. Eating healthily while you’re away is often easier than at home. Include as many fruits and vegetables as possible

Enjoy the journey

Whether you’re travelling by car, train, boat or plane, there are a number of easy steps you can take to make your trip more comfortable. Try to do some simple stretches every hour or so to help minimise swelling, heartburn and leg cramps. If possible, get up and wander around every so often. Or if you’re driving, try to take a break at least every hour and a half.

Nigeria Electricity Generation Drops To 2,684MW

The nation’s power generation plunged by 777.9 megawatts on Monday as output from the hydropower plants and some gas-fired stations, including Egbin in Lagos, suffered declines.

A total generation capacity of 4,463.3MW was unavailable as of 6am on Monday, compared to 3,631.4MW on Friday, according to the latest data obtained by a Punch correspondent from the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing.
Gas constraints and frequency management occasioned by electricity distribution companies’ load demand left 2,365.5MW and 2,087MW, respectively idle.
Total electricity generation, which stood at 3,462MW as of 6am on Sunday, fell to 2,684.20MW on Monday. The nation generates most of its electricity from gas-fired power plants, while output from hydropower plants makes up about 30 per cent of the total generation.
Generation from Kainji, Jebba and Shiroro hydro plants dropped to 203MW, 133MW and 162MWm, respectively as of 6am on Monday from 275MW, 317MW, 376MW on Friday, August 10.
Kainji’s unit 1G7 was said to be out on stator winding failure; 1G8, out due to oil leakage on governor runner head; 1G9, out due to burnt 7.5MVA 33/0.415kV and 183.6MVA 16/330kV station service transformer and generator transformer; and 1G10 was shut down due to thrust bearing temperature problem.
Three units at Jebba, 2G2, 3 and 4, were said to be out on frequency management, while 2G6 was out due to burnt generator winding and automatic voltage regulator.
It was gathered that Shiroro’s 411G1, 411G2 and 411G3 recorded reduced generation on frequency management; while unit 411G 4 was out on maintenance.
The three hydropower plants generated a total of 1,293MW as of January 5, translating to about 36.7 per cent of the total national generation of 3,517.5MW that day.
Output from Egbin, the nation’s biggest power station, fell from 567MW as of 6am on Sunday to 436MW on Monday.
Six power plants, namely Geregu I, Geregu NIPP, Odukpani NIPP, Ibom Power, AES and ASCO, did not generate any megawatt as of 6am on Monday.
The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, at the 29th Monthly Power Sector Meeting in Niger, said, “Those who know and who genuinely desire to solve problems in this industry do not need to be told that the most pressing challenge of the sector today lies at the distribution end.”

A man who is stuck in the body of a 12-year-old at the age of 25 has described the constant pain he is living from the rare disorder.

Tomasz Nadolski, from Olesnica in south-west Poland, suffers from a genetic condition known as Fabry disease, which affects the kidneys, heart and skin. It also causes a build-up of a type of fat that means the body can’t metabolise fatty molecules.
He said: ‘I am 25 years old and I would like to look like a man of my age. I hate this boy who I see every day in the mirror, because it is not me.’

When he was seven, Tomasz began vomiting after every meal and started suffering from pains in his stomach, hands and feet.
He said: ‘Friends at school would say: “Skeletor, you’ve left Auschwitz!”‘
Doctors were unable to work out what was wrong with him and suspected his problems could  be mental rather than physical, and recommended he eat more. He says the condition has made his relatives still treat him as a child, straining their relationship.
He said: ‘When I’m at home, I’m just sitting in my room and spending my time alone.
‘I feel lonely and I lack the support of my family and this is how it has been for many years. The disease has destroyed our family relationship.’
And he says that the illness also affects his everyday life as people refuse to accept his real age.
‘I often suffer sad situations. When I show the ID card in the office or if the police stop me, they accuse me of having a fake one,’ he said.
He lives on benefits worth the equivalent of £160 a month while the medicine costs nearly £170,000 a year. Fortunately, the manufacturer of the expensive treatment for the disease has agreed to provide him with the drug for free.
His severe stomach problems mean he cannot eat and he has to be attached to a drip 20 hours a day so he can take in enough nourishment.

He also needs painkillers, including morphine patches, to help him cope with the pain he feels. His feet are so deformed that he has to wear special shoes.
He explained: ‘I feel pain in my joints, bones, muscles. Every inch of my body hurts me. I am not able to sleep and live normally.’
