Arsenal want Dembele. Unai Emery, in the wake of signing Stephan Lichtsteiner, Bernd Leno, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi, feels the Barcelona star is the missing piece of his attacking jigsaw.
The Gunners are understood to be chasing a winger and Dembele, aged just 21, would fit the bill. He toiled at the Nou Camp last term but, with a £134million price tag weighing him down, it was almost to be expected. Having to strut your stuff in the shadow of Lionel Messi also does not help.
Arsenal’s summer, so far, has appeased fans. Supporters tired after years of watching Arsene Wenger dither over deals have taken to Emery who, with his exciting brand of football, may upset the Premier League big boys this season.
A loan deal would do nothing for them. Loaning out a £134m player would be foolish, particularly one so dazzling as Dembele.
So if Barcelona want him to go – and they may do, following Malcom’s arrival from Bordeaux – then they should demand more than just money. They should test the waters by enquiring about Ramsey.
